A Half-Day Safari into the World of Parrot Rescue & Rewilding

Begin your journey where healing begins: at the heart of Fundación Loros. After a traditional countryside breakfast by the lake, meet the stars of this mission—rescued parrots and macaws preparing to return to the wild. Guided by our expert biologists, you’ll help prepare their food, witness their personalities, and learn about the journey from trauma to flight.

Then, mount your horse and follow the paths once traveled by freed birds. Ride through the breathtaking dry forest and meet the local farmers who protect it. Later, shift gears in a rugged UTV as you explore deep into this vibrant ecosystem—one of the most endangered on Earth.
Before heading back, leave your mark by planting a native tree that will one day shelter future generations of birds.

This tour was amazing! We were able to get very close to the parrots, and even the monkeys. The horseback ride was a thrill, and went through a beautiful part of the preserve (the whole place was lush and gorgeous). The horseback ride led to another part of the preserve where we saw more parrots; the ATV ride was also fun, and we got to pick our own papayas (that we got to take home - other snacks were provided) and pick a plane to plant. Overall, I went with two friends and we all had a blast; it exceeded our expectations and I would recommend it to anyone who is the least bit adventurous.

This was an amazing activity! The grounds of the foundation are simply stunning - all sorts of fruit trees and flowers. Beautiful! The guides are incredibly knowledgeable. I was able to prepare breakfast for the parrots and the guides provided so much information on the diet and lifestyle of rescued birds. After feeding the birds, I was able to take a tour of the sanctuary. The walks and views from the mountain are unbelievably beautiful. This is a once in a lifetime activity in Colombia (and it's for a great cause).

We really enjoyed this whole entire experience from beginning to end. It’s about a hour from Cartagena so be prepared for a nice ride. They do offer to pick you up and drop you off. There’s breakfast included also we got a super tasty fresh mango juice! Our guide was bilingual and she was very helpful. Everyone was super friendly. We also got to plant a tree! 10 out of 10. We plan to visit again in the future to see how much the community has grown. We loved it!!

Highly recommend this experience—it’s more than a tour. It’s an immersion filled with knowledge and hands on learning about parrots, macaws, plants and people. I thoroughly enjoyed my adventure with Lilly and Alberto including helping feed parrots, horseback riding, hiking, and planting a mango tree. A very unique and memorable experience (and as a solo female traveler I felt quite safe throughout my time with them). If you like nature, animals, or just want to be immersed in authentic adventure, definitely check this out.

Absolutely amazing! Alejandro, Alex , and the team were fantastic to work with! We rode horses through the Colombian mountains with the option of UTV, had an amazing breakfast, and learned about the agricultural bird conservation. The whole experience was incredibly safe and they even had the option of a bilingual guide. This was probably one of my favorite experiences in Columbia - 100% would recommend.
